Mother Nature Halloween costume DIY via Keeping Change

Need a last minute (but still creative) Halloween costume DIY? A Mother Nature costume it is! If you own a floral dress, live near some shrubbery, and are handy with a teasing comb and hair pins then we are officially in business! Click below to see how I created this look.

As an aside, if you don’t happen to have a fake bird, you know, just lyin’ around, you can poke a hole in the bottom of an egg, let the yolk drain out, rinse, dry, glue it to a hair pin and stick that into your “nest” instead.

Start by teasing ALL of your hair. We want volume, people! Next, separate the center section of your hair (so that the section is surrounded by the rest of your hair on all sides) and pin into a loose bun on top of your head. Now one small section at a time, start on one side of your head and begin wrapping pieces of hair (starting from the back of your head) around to the front of the bun “nest.” Pin the pieces messily around the bun to transform the bun into the look of a nest. Do the same on the opposite side until all of your hair has been pinned up. Now add some greenery and a bird/egg and you have officially become Mother Nature!

You don’t need a fancy “costume” for this necessarily, I wore a light-weight floral dress I bought on sale last year at Urban Outfitters, but I also like this floral dress as an option.

This post concludes this year’s Halloween Costume series. Past costumes linked below:
