I feel very fortunate to have super creative and talented friends who like to include me in their creative projects. One of my very best girlfriends from college, Sarah Michelle, is a talented photographer and a few weeks ago she enlisted me and my friend Ashley to help her out with one of her projects.
If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw a little sneak preview of the makeup she did for me. She facilitated the entire process from creating the “set,” to makeup and costumes. The three of us danced together throughout our college years, became close friends, roommates, and creative partners and contributors for one others’ respective projects (choreography, photography, math homework… yes, sometimes writing math proofs required a little creativity!).
A few behind the scenes shots from our “set” AKA the living rom of Ashley’s apartment. The shoot was inspired by this Symphonic Circles music video that we used to obsess over in college. The costuming and makeup of the dancers in the video are incredible!
These were the silk flowers that Sarah cut apart and pasted around my eye using eyelash glue (along with a few feathers and rhinestones of course – it is rare that you will find a dancer without a few rhinestones nearby).
We have done photo shoots for dance projects among other things in past years, but this one reminded us of just how much fun we always have creating them! Sarah and I have been brainstorming a few more ideas that might be neat to share in future posts, so stay tuned!
On an unrelated/related note, Sarah Michelle is leaving soon on a 6 month trip to Congo to create a documentary uncovering gender based violence. They are going to be following the lives of three woman at different stages of life in a really creative and visual way. Check out the trailer and if you feel so inclined, donate to their Kickstarter account to send them on their way! Thanks all!
